What is a Keyhole Surgery?

Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) is a kind of surgery which is getting more and more common nowadays. Another well-known expression is 'endoscopic surgery'. With this method, a surgical operation is performed by the help of:

1.  A small endoscopic camera or a microscope
2.  Several long, thin, rigid/flexible instrumentsthrough natural body openings or small artificial incisions ('keyhole surgery').

In todays day and age ALL GYNECOLOGICAL SURGERIES MUST BE PERFORMED LAPAROSCOPICALLY

In comparison to the usual, open surgery, there exist several advantages for the patient:

Advantage of minimal access surgery

  •  Less tissue trauma
  •  Less blood loss - few ml versus half a liter in open surgery
  •  Less postoperative pain - patients walk on the same day
  •  Faster recovery - patients can get back to work in a couple of days versus weeks that open surgery
  •  Requires Shorter hospital stay - 1 day versus 4-5 days for open surgery
  •  Better cosmetic results - smaller scars
  •  Less chances of wond infection
